Positive improvements in National Student Survey

Students say their experience at 91ÊÓƵ Leicester (DMU) has improved across the board in a new national survey.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is filled out by final year undergraduate students from universities across the country. It poses a series of questions about their studies, allowing them to give universities anonymous feedback.

This year, students have rated the university more highly than the previous year for organisation and management, student voice and teaching on my course, with many results rising by up to 3%, reflecting the impact of our first year of block teaching in which students take one module at a time to create a more engaging style of teaching and recent initiatives such as the new active teaching and learning model.

Since 2022, we have seen over a 10% increase in student satisfaction for the theme ‘teaching on my course’ - a positive sign that recent changes to how we structure and deliver teaching with block teaching are beginning to make a difference.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Katie Normington said:

“The experience students have at university stays with them all their lives, so making that experience as transformational and memorable as possible is one of our highest priorities.

The National Student Survey is honest, clear feedback from students on what they think about their course and the support and resources we have to support them. It is an honest appraisal of us as a university.”

“So these results are a real credit to the commitment and skill of our staff here at DMU. It’s particularly encouraging to see improvements in areas that have been a priority for us over the past year.”

“Seeing progress such as this shows that our continued work to improve our teaching and how we support and listen to our students is felt by them. It evidences that students really value our approach to creating an empowering university.

“This is of course down to our dedicated staff, who approach every day as a fresh opportunity to deliver excellent teaching using our innovative block approach and to support our brilliant and creative students in their journey.

“We know that there is always more to do, and we are committed to keeping the momentum going by continuing to listen, improve, and innovate in partnership with our students.”
